nel 2001, gli armeni System of a Down pubblicano il secondo capolavoro dell loro carriera. Curiosamente, è in cima alle classifiche USA l'11 settembre, contestando con i suoi forti contenuti la politica americana. è un disco molto aggressivo ma allo stesso tempo anche melodico, con improvvise pause e repentini cambi di tempo alternati a violente esplosioni, su un muro di chitarre su cui si staglia la voce di Tankian. L'attacco di chitarra della title track e le sue ultime grida sono riconosciute dai contestatori di tutto il mondo!

The Way to Go
Finally, in an effort to combine my free time activities and the work I am supposed to be about, I will try to start regular posts on my attempt to learn the game of Go, otherwise known as "Weiqi" in Chinese (thanks to Manconeuro for the suggestion!). At the same time, I will search high and low in the academic scholarship to find out what more we can learn about Weiqi's place in traditional Chinese culture and literature. So this will be both blog and bibliography.

The Big Ask Live
Thom Yorke e Jonny Greenwood si sono esibiti il 1° maggio 2006 al Koko di Londra per supportare l'iniziativa “The big ask live”, che rientra nella campagna “The big ask” volta a persuadere il governo britannico ad assumere iniziative concrete contro i mutamenti climatici. I 1500 fortunati hanno potuto assistere ad una grande performance dei due Radiohead, con rivisitazioni acustiche dei loro vecchi brani e tre pezzi che verranno poi inclusi nel successivo "In Raibow".

Dario Fo and his wife, Franca Rame, performed for ages around Europe and the world, he is an Italian satirist, playwright, theater director, actor, and composer. His style is about an "Giullare di corte", an artist who was working for the entertainment of the King, but at the same time taking joke of him (and for that most of the time tortured and killed). But this style, evolved in ages, it's a form of information that is tolerated from the authority. One of his play, for example, lightly against the church, but not allowed that time, made all priest that had to check if to censure him, happy and laughing about the play, to allow it. But, at the end, The Communist, the Catholic, the Fascist dislike him.
Dario Fo withdrew all rights to perform his plays in Czechoslovakia in protest after Warsaw Pact forces crushed the Prague Spring in 1968, and refused to accept cuts demanded by Soviet censors. Productions of his plays in the Eastern Block ended.
In 1970, first play of Accidental Death of an Anarchist criticized abuse of forces of law and order, in name of the Anarchist Giuseppe Pinelli.
When Fo criticized police in one of his plays, police raids and censorship increased. A fascist group, commissioned by high ranking officials in Milan's Carabinieri, the Italian military police, kidnapped Franca Rame, torturing and raping her. Rame returned to the stage after two months with new anti-fascist monologues.
In 1980 Fo and family founded a retreat, the Libera Università di Alcatraz, in the hills near Gubbio and Perugia. They bought the valley bit by bit. The retreat is currently run by Jacopo Fo.
In 1984 finally, the greatest "Democracy" of the world, the USA, allow him to visit. That's because of his critics on Vietnam War and about JFK assassination (officially because he was Communist, but where?).
In 1997 Dario Fo won the Nobel of literature.

due anni fa, credo, vidi i massive attack ad Assago. fu uno di concerti più belli che ricordi. pensavo che non avrei visto strumenti sul palco. invece suonarono magnificamente ogni pezzo, e i vari vocalist furono una vera rivelazione. mi ricordo una ragazza, di colore, che cantò un pezzo di blue lines in modo superbo. alla fine, salutarono a pugno chiuso. una magnificenza. da quel dì, passarono da "gruppo molto bravo" a "band eccezionale da tramandare".

Harvest
questo è il mio ultimo giorno di lavoro (magari, invece ricomincerò a breve da un'altra parte..). abbandono dopo ben cinque anni l'ingrato mondo ferroviario, carrozzone mangiasoldi pubblici che diventano chissà come profitti privati, sperando in un futuro un po' più ricco di gratificazioni. dato il punto di partenza, non credo alla fine ci voglia molto, quindi sono abbastanza ottimista. festeggio postando uno dei miei album preferiti, sebbene qualcuno ancora fatichi a digerirne l'immensità..

The Wall Live
Tutti conoscono, magari più per sentito dire che per l'ascolto dell'album o per la visione del film, il concept dei Pink Floyd. e molti hanno una anche vaga idea di quello che è stato il tour, probabilmente perchè hanno visto il Live in Berlin di Waters all'indomani della caduta del Muro. i concerti del 1980 con la scenografia completa ebbero luogo solo in quattro città: Londra, Dortmund, Los Angeles e New York. Di questi concerti giravano già da tempo vari bootleg, più o meno di buona resa sonora, e un video, preso a Londra all'Earls Court. Nel 2000 uscì l'album ufficiale, con registrazioni live dai concerti del 1980 e del 1981. si spera nel dvd, ma ancora non se ne sa niente, si teme non ci sia del buon materiale per confezionarlo. per adesso, accontentatiamoci del sonoro..

Kula Shaker
Sonorità anni '70 per questa band inglese, ma anche qualche accenno di quel brit pop tanto in voga (Oasis su tutti) in quegli anni. Già dalla copertina si capisce che è molto curato, e le canzoni non tradiscono quest'impressione. ci sono accenni di Deep Purple, di Grateful Dead (a Jerry Garcia viene addirittura intitolata una traccia), ci sono sitar e chitarre, più melodiche che distorte, e buone intuizioni. il disco risulta molto omogeneo, magari poco vario, ma sempre gradevole. Il singolo, Tattva, arrivò al quarto posto della chart britannica. Ma la band, dopo un avvio fulminante e pur facendo intravedere grandi potenzialità, non riuscì a confermarsi, e quest'album rappresenta la vetta della loro produzione, almeno finora.
